The Heart of Live Oak Boutique
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Kayla. It's nice to meet you! I love Jesus, my family, and friends, and I feel so blessed to be able to design and create for Live Oak Boutique. It is absolutely a dream come true!
Since this is my first little blog post, I wanted to share a little bit of my backstory and the heart of Live Oak Boutique.
Something about designing and creating with my hands has always been so fulfilling for me, even all the way back to my elementary art classes. It took me a few years to decide what I wanted to do with my life when I went off to college. By the time I had made up my mind, it was too late to major in graphic design. Well, too late if I didnt want to stay in school for four more years, and who has the money for that?! Ha! So I did the next best thing and majored in advertising. As part of my major I took several creative strategy classes where I had hands on experience with designing ads and I really loved it. I purchased an iMac my junior year of college and spent countless hours creating and teaching myself adobe creative suite. After graduation I had the opportunity to work as an account executive for an advertising agency as my first "real job" and from there I moved on to work as a marketing director for a local business. All the while, I continued to develop my design skills, teaching myself as I went.
After designing my own wedding invitations in 2012, I fell in love with the world of paper. I absolutely love the physical aspect of paper. The textures, the quality, the effort that goes into putting a beautiful design on paper. I love that you can hold onto it and it isn’t fleeting like an email or a phone call. It was then that I started dreaming of having my own stationery and design business, but financially, we (my husband and I) just weren’t there yet. So I continued to work at my corporate job while the dream of entrepreneurship continued to brew in my heart.
I felt God nudging me to adjust my sail a few years before I finally did. One of my sweet friends said I just took the scenic route. Ha! To be honest, I had gotten a little too caught up in the hustle and bustle but I knew in my heart of hearts the life I was chasing after was not the life God wanted for me. I craved a simpler life. I missed being able to spend time with my family. I wanted to be a better wife to my sweet husband. I missed being able to create beautiful things. I wanted to feel like my work had a purpose. I wanted to be where God needed me.
So in January of this year, (2017) I stepped out in faith and resigned from my corporate marketing job. With a lot of prayer and the help and support of my husband, family, and friends, I started pursuing my very own business!
I love building people up, cheering them on, reminding them of their worth, and encouraging them through their circumstances. It's part of my purpose and who the Lord created me to be. My love of paper, and my heart for encouraging others and creating beautiful designs is what lead me to start Live Oak Boutique. I want to remind women, like you, that God created you on purpose, with a purpose. He intentionally places dreams and desires in your heart, gives you the gifts and talents you need to accomplish them, and then sets your heart on fire with the passion it takes to pursue them. So whatever life has thrown your way, whatever mountain you're facing, or valley you're living in, YOU are on a PURPOSEFUL journey. And sometimes all we need is a little reminder, or a little encouragement to find joy along the way. That is where Live Oak Boutique comes in. We want to encourage women to live joyful lives rooted in the love of Jesus....that's the heartbeat of this business.
I know wholeheartedly that Im using the gifts and talents God gave me for a purpose that makes Him proud. I think that is what makes Live Oak Boutique so special. Its almost surreal that I get to pull together all the things I love to create beautiful and meaningful products that encourage joy, radiate love, and imprint scripture on the heart. Isnt God just so good like that?
Whatever it is that God is doing in your life, whatever dreams he has tucked away in your heart or struggle your enduring, know that it all has a purpose and His plans for you are GOOD!
For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
Im looking forward to sharing a little bit of my heart with you throughout this blog. It's my hope that I can offer you a little encouragement and bring a little joy to your day-to-day!
Rooted in the love of Jesus,
